Captain Austin Root is Athlete of the Week
Who influences you and why?
The biggest influence in my life would have to be my dad. He rode himself back in the day. My dad has always had a passion for motocross but just never had the opportunity to live his dreams. He shared his love for the sport with me and my brother and has tried to provide all the opportunities that he never had. My parents have always believed in me and encouraged me with my own racing career.
What/Who inspired you to ride?
Definitely my dad inspired me to ride! He brought home two new PW 50's, one for me and one for my sister when we were 3 and 4 years old. I learned how to ride a dirt bike without training wheels before I ever learned how to ride a bicycle.
What cool and exciting things have you been up to or are going to do in 2013?
For 2013 I was hoping to finish my amateur career with a bang but was injured at the northeast regional. I've been back on a bike for about a month now and I'm setting my sights on getting my pro license and preparing for the 2014 outdoor nationals.
Have you had to overcome any challenges that made riding an obstacle at times? (i.e. injuries, support)
The biggest hurdle that I had to overcome would be a dislocated shoulder at the end of my amateur career. After several months of recovery, I'm just getting back to where I was physically before the injury.
What is your daily routine and how do you get yourself prepared for all of the races?
Now that I have gone Pro, my daily routine revolves around motocross. My number one priority is be on the bike. Then the rest of my day is filled with going to the gym, getting proper nutrition and rest, and contacting sponsors.
Where would you like to see yourself in the next two years?
In the next 2 years I would like to see myself as a factory rider and being one of the top guys in motocross and supercross.
